IPTPA Educator Program
Providing essential fundamentals of how to introduce and teach pickleball to community instructors.
Empowering Community Instructors
This is a new program that IPTPA has developed that targets school physical education teachers, park district staff, YMCA, and JCC employees. The intent is to provide those instructors who are already employed and have insurance with the basic fundamentals of how to introduce and teach pickleball.
Reaching players a private coach never will
Most people meet pickleball for the first time in a school gym, a park district programme or a community centre — taught by someone whose job is already something else. The Educator Program exists so that first encounter is a good one, taught correctly and safely, without asking those staff to become full-time coaches.
Built around existing staff
It targets physical education teachers, park district staff, and YMCA and JCC employees — people already employed and already insured. Two hours, not a certification pathway.
Classroom and court
Half the session is taught indoors and half on court, and the court half runs on a multi-purpose gym, tennis or badminton surface — so a venue does not need dedicated pickleball courts to host it.
What participants take away
An IPTPA Educator Handbook and the WPF Rulebook are supplied, and those who complete the course receive an IPTPA Educator Certificate. The drills are age-appropriate, which matters most for the school audience.
Arranging a session
Sessions are run for a group at the host’s own venue rather than scheduled publicly. Schools, districts and community organisations can contact IPTPA to arrange one.
A Comprehensive 2-Hour Course
A balanced approach to learning the fundamentals of pickleball instruction through both theory and practice.
Hour One: Classroom
Reviewing the most important elements of the IPTPA teaching methodology. An IPTPA Educator Handbook along with the WPF Rulebook will be supplied.
Hour Two: On Court
Takes place on a multi-purpose gym, tennis, or badminton court. Participants will practice the methodologies taught in the classroom.
Drills & Match Play
This practical session leads to a number of age-appropriate drills and match play. Basic rules are much easier to follow when playing a full game.
IPTPA Educator Certificate
Those who complete the two-hour course will receive a certificate of completion stating that they are an approved IPTPA educator and will be posted on our website directory. Please note this is an educator certificate, not a certification.
